Failed Money Making Sites

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've been waiting for... *Drum roll please*... A list of all the "paying" sites that don't actually pay, or aren't worth the effort.

To those of you who know my blog, you'll know what this post is about. Shoot, you were probably anticipating it! To those whoa re new here, hi, my name is Mary, and I love making lists. This here would be the 3rd in a series of paying/non-paying apps/websites out there.

As with my other posts, if you can't find a website on my list, it either pays good, or I haven't tried it yet. Let me know and I'll give it a shot for you!

*If you want to know which websites DO pay, go ahead and check out my post Real Paying Websites Of 2019*

And for the real reason you're here, my list:

THE WEBSITES THAT DON'T PAY

At first glance, Freelancer seems like an amazing idea!

There's a large plethora of jobs available that require various skills. With a quick search of the job board, I was able to find 5-6 different tasks I would be interested in and skilled enough to complete. The pay on these jobs varies, as the "workers" all have an opportunity to place a "bid" stating how much pay they would require for the work, but you can see the average amount being offered for each task and the numbers are more than fair. Sounds LOVELY!

Now here's where they lost me. To boost your profile (and be more likely to get accepted for jobs), you can complete exams in various categories that showcase your capabilities. These exams are $5/attempt, and if you have a large range of skills like me, it would get costly. So, I skipped the exams and attempted to apply with nothing more than an upload of my certificates from various online courses I had taken. I didn't get hired for a single job. Not even one.

If you're willing to invest in your skills, this may be worth it, depending on how well you score and who's doing the hiring. But that would be your choice. As for me, I'll pass.

Upwork is another freelancing site where you can apply for various tasks or jobs based on your skills and experience. I couldn't remember why I had abandoned it in the first place. Then I logged in. I couldn't even LOOK at the job board because "there was presently no need for my skills". Um... you're telling me nobody needs accounting/bookkeeping/data collection AT ALL anywhere on their website? Huge let down.

I suppose, if you have other skills, more web design or graphic design, you might have better luck than me. But I still don't remember why I quit in the first place, so it's probably not worth it if you do.

Try My UI is definitely a legitimate website and they do pay out. The only problem is the fierce competition. When a job listing becomes available, an email is sent to all eligible workers, and its a first-come-first-serve deal. So, unless you hit that link within 2 minutes of receiving it, you'll probably lose it to someone else.

I personally don't have time to sit on my computer staring at my screen in HOPES of getting an email and being the first to click it. So, this is a no-go for me.
